Nga Waka's name is taken from Nga Waka A Kupe (The Canoes of Kupe), the three hills, which lie like upturned canoes, forming a backdrop for the town of Martinborough. Nga Waka Chardonnay is a rich, complex Martinborough Chardonnay showing intense ripe stone fruit flavours underpinned by subtle spicy and barrel fermentation characters, enhanced by a silky palate texture and a elegant lingering finish.

The Home Block Chardonnay is Nga Waka's flagship white wine. It is 100% barrel fermented and goes through 100% malolactic fermentation. It remains in barrel for 10 months and the lees are stirred monthly. Pale gold colour in the glass, it is rich and complex with deep, intense spicy and mineral flavours underpinned by tight-grained French oak, barrel fermentation and malolactic fermentation. Fresh, vibrant acidity cuts through rich or creamy dishes, pairing beautifully with lamb and white meats.

On the nose there are aromas of citrus, as well as honeydew melon and some stone fruit (peach and nectarine). In addition there is a hint of struck match which adds complexity and a flinty minerality. The palate is concentrated with refreshing acidity and a lingering finish.
